As lacrosse hits its mid-season mark at spring break some teams have been impressive, but region play looms large in April. The Peach State Pulse takes a quick look at the teams in Georgia with double-digit wins through March.
Lambert (12-0) continues to dominate Class 6-7A, the state of Georgia and maybe the Southeast. Right on their tails is the only other undefeated team in the state, North Gwinnett (10-0). The Bulldogs hold a nice win over a Grayson and face a likely region championship with Johns Creek (11-2), who is coming off impressive wins in Florida, on April 17. Centennial (11-1) continues to display explosive offense with strong wins out of state and over Lovett. Sitting at 10-3 both Walton and Grayson have nice wins in the first half of the season. The final double-digit win team in 6/7A is Hillgrove (11-1) who’s best win comes against Kennesaw Mountain.
In a classification that has been dominated by Lovett and Westminster since the split in 2010, Class 1-5A seems to have some new threats in 2018. Blessed Trinity (11-1) is off to a hot start with wins over 6-7A contenders Lassiter and Pope. Sitting at 12-2, Starr’s Mill continues their dominance on the south side but showed their ability to play with the big boys in a close loss against Centennial. Also in the 10-win column south of the airport is McIntosh (11-4) with a nice victory over Pace Academy this season. Starr’s Mill and McIntosh will face-off in the heated “Battle of the Bubble” in the season finale on April 26.
